A study conducted by Research Assistant Halide Sena Koçyiğit, one of the academics in our department, together with her colleagues, has been published in the Turkish Psychological Counseling and Guidance journal.

The Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS) assesses individuals’ attitudes toward celebrities across three dimensions: entertainment–social, intense–personal, and borderline pathological. In this study, the scale was adapted to Turkish culture, and its psychometric properties were examined in a sample of 312 young adults. The analyses revealed that the original three-factor structure of the scale was confirmed in the Turkish sample and that the model demonstrated acceptable fit. Reliability analyses indicated internal consistency with Cronbach’s alpha coefficients of .82, .86, and .67 for the entertainment–social, intense–personal, and borderline pathological factors, respectively. Although the reliability of the borderline pathological factor was lower, it remained within the acceptable range reported in the original study (.65–.70). Item–total correlations ranged between .38 and .72, indicating good item discrimination. Within the scope of criterion-related validity analyses, stronger attitudes toward celebrities were found to be associated with higher life satisfaction. However, no significant relationships were observed with self-esteem and religiosity overall; only the entertainment–social dimension showed an association with self-esteem. The Turkish version of the Celebrity Attitude Scale demonstrates strong psychometric properties and supports its use for assessing attitudes toward celebrities in the Turkish context.
