A bibliometric analysis conducted by faculty members of our department, Assoc. Prof. Tuğba Yılmaz and Res. Asst. Yusuf Ziya Koç, together with our student Melis Kul, has been published in ADDICTA: The Turkish Journal on Addictions.
This study aimed to examine theses on addiction conducted in Türkiye. Within the scope of the study, master’s theses related to addiction available in the National Thesis Center and covering the post-pandemic period between 2021 and 2024 were analyzed. The number of master’s theses on addiction in Türkiye has increased significantly after the pandemic, indicating a growing academic focus on this topic. Digital addictions—particularly social media and gaming addiction—are the most frequently studied topics due to their prevalence and accessibility. Addiction-focused theses span various disciplines, including psychology, sports sciences, education, medicine, and social work, highlighting the need for interdisciplinary research. While studies on gambling addiction have increased, research on online gambling, betting, and pornography addiction remains insufficient, likely due to legal and social factors. The findings should inform social policies that focus on prevention, regulation, and public awareness, particularly regarding emerging addictions such as digital and online gambling.
